Hottest Jobs in eSports 2015

A huge part of my work at eSports Group involves monitoring hiring/recruiting trends within the eSports industry. As a result, I’m slicing and dicing numbers on available jobs quite a bit of time analyzing the growth of the eSports space, in terms of available jobs and careers. Drawn from this work is a list of the hottest eSports jobs in 2015, below.

  1. Director eSports – Provides leadership and direction across all eSports programs and activities.
    Responsible for the design and development of eSports programs. Involvement with end-to-end creation/production of live/online tournaments. This person will also directly manage our relationship with our global eSports partners. Holds high level responsibility for driving growth of our eSports ecosystem: organizers, shoutcasters, and volunteers.
  2. Content writer – Responsible for producing content that is not only informative but also of a high journalistic quality. Helps diversify eSports news offerings including coverage of: Counter-Strike: GO, Halo, Call of Duty, Heroes of the Storm, Hearthstone, StarCraft 2, World of Warcraft, League of Legends and DotA 2. Other topics can include, specifically, roster changes, upcoming events, recaps of past events, patches, team profiles, player profiles, interviews and general strategy.
  3. Program Manager, eSports – Responsible for seeing to the day-to-day eSports aspects relevant to a given franchise. This can involve networking, scheduling, live event coverage, and reporting on success of all related efforts. This position requires supervision of the on-boarding, mentoring and management of eSports team members against program growth and success objectives. Moreover, a high degree of self-motivation and a detail-oriented approach along with good written and spoken communication skills are a must have.
  4. Network Engineer, eSports – Proven ability to design, build, and support eSports network infrastructure. This includes anything from  LANs, WANs, TCP/IP stacks, remote access systems, and authentication platforms. A firm grasp of network information security policies, standards, and procedures. A commitment to documentation and consistent implementation is a must. On-duty troubleshooting during eSports events. Able to respond to critical network errors with quick thinking and fast issue resolution. Ability to travel to eSports events around the world.
  5. Research Analyst, eSports – expert-level domain specific knowledge about several game genres, including in-depth knowledge of the various players, teams, and game mechanics. Demonstrated mastery of analytics (metrics and trends) is a must have; alongside technical knowledge, exceptional communication skills and the well-formed ability to communicate the impact of eSports statistics to a broad audience. A demonstrable passion for eSports and statistics. A grasp of the collecting and curating stats towards deriving insights from data that feeds performance analysis and/or predictive models.
